Harvested at peak maturity and processed under strict quality control, our elephant yam is widely sought by global buyers in the food processing, wellness, and culinary sectors.
Elephant Yam, also known as Suran or Jimikand, is a starchy tropical root vegetable cultivated extensively in India and Southeast Asia. It is a robust, underground tuber with a rough, bark-like exterior and a firm, cream-colored flesh inside. Known for its earthy, mildly pungent taste, elephant yam is a staple in vegetarian and ayurvedic diets due to its high dietary fiber, minerals, and digestive enzymes.
This tuber thrives in the hot and humid climate of Indian states like Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Didwaniya Group ensures that only the finest elephant yams—free from pests and decay—are selected, cleaned, sliced, and packaged as per international standards.

Elephant yam is highly valued in culinary, medicinal, and food processing industries. In traditional Indian cooking, it is used in curries, stews, stir-fries, and deep-fried snacks such as yam cutlets or chips. It’s also a popular meat substitute in vegan and vegetarian dishes due to its dense, meaty texture. In Ayurveda, elephant yam is appreciated for its digestive properties and is often prescribed to balance doshas, aid in weight management, and treat hemorrhoids and abdominal disorders. Food processors use dehydrated and frozen yam in ready-to-eat meals, frozen mixes, and powdered health supplements.
