Clove is the aromatic dried flower bud of the evergreen tree Syzygium aromaticum, belonging to the Myrtaceae family. Recognized for its intense fragrance and warm, pungent flavor, clove has been valued for centuries in both culinary and medicinal traditions across the world.

Native to the Maluku Islands of Indonesia (historically known as the Spice Islands), clove has been a major commodity in the ancient spice trade. Today, the leading producers and exporters include Indonesia, Madagascar, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, and India — particularly from the southern states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, where the tropical climate supports ideal growing conditions.
